SEO Trends That will Impact your Strategy

Since 2019, use of smartphones has increased, giving a rise to mobile applications. Today, we can safely order anything online to be delivered to our doorstep. Aside from that, there are few predictions based on recent interests we saw online. Few of them are as follows:

Trend #1: Online Shopping

Due to lockdowns and holidays, it’s estimated that by the end of 2021, over 2.1 billion people worldwide are expected to buy goods and services. Not only that, Google and other platforms has also worked on improving their shopping experience. Google even bent itself to be a free for business platform plus, implement the Shopping Graph to help buyers put their products in front of more sellers. This in turn makes it easier for sellers to find the right products. By the way, Shopping Graph includes information like:

  • Price
  • Website
  • Reviews
  • SKU and inventory data
  • Videos

Statistica | Number of digital buyers worldwide: https://www.statista.com/statistics/251666/number-of-digital-buyers-worldwide/

Using the above-mentioned information, the Shopping Graph delivers the most relevant products in real-time to those who are searching them for shopping – And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Google has an amazing app called Google Lens. If you don’t know, it is like a photo app that displays any information available online about the object in the photo. You don’t even have to take a picture, everything happens in real time.

If there are some words written, the results will be even more quick. From the SEO point of view, it is crucial to add full info, alt text, description to images and products so Google can link them. Right now, not many people know about this feature, so this is the best time for using it.

Trend #2: Vocal Queries

With the launch of LaMDA, Google can understand natural language better. This is specialty helpful when using voice commands, something alternative to, hey Siri!

Now the question is, how to optimize for this SEO trend for 2022?

For this to work in SEO’s point of view, you need to optimize voice search using these three methods:

Targeting phrases: It’s hard to realize, but the typed phrases aren’t the same and the verbal queries. For example, one would search ‘best hiking boot brand’ but for verbal, it could be ‘what are the best boots for hiking?’

Here, while working on SEO, optimizing hiking boots for both phrases is important.

Keeping answers short: While optimizing for conversational keywords, keep the answers for queries short and simple. This keeps your answer to the queries concise, making the delivery of helpful information smooth.

Considering vernacular: Each region has specific phrases or jargon to describe everyday objects or places. Like people living in Pennsylvania, often call their state ‘PA’. Knowing the specific vernacular of the region you are optimizing for, helps you achieve better results using your conversational keywords.

Trend #3: Video Marketing

With TikTok ranking number one as the most popular domain in 2021, it’s no surprise that videos, especially short clips, are the most-watched content online. This has inspired many marketers to use these channels as a marketing tool. This is why YouTube is also testing YouTube shorts, which is somewhat similar to TikTok.

If you haven’t already, you have to make videos a part of your content strategy. Of course, it doesn’t work for everyone, right?

Wrong, videos serve a purpose, either to let viewers know about your content, product, or services or to inform them that you’re hard at work each day of the week. On the other hand, your tutorials (if applicable) are a good way to make a video marketing strategy. It can be done either in one of two ways:

Clip Markup: If you’ve seen a YouTube video with marks, breaks, or dots on a seek bar, it’s called clip markup. It usually points out key points in a clip. You can set key markup for these points, making it easier for the viewers to go to the specific part of the video.

Seek Markup:  Seek markup is a way that Google how the video structure works. To put it into perspective, sometimes you’ll see key marks in a video description. Google reads these marks and based on names or keywords that define those points or breaks to structure answers to queries. Seems complicated, but it’s time-saving. This way, you can only see the relevant part of the video based on your query directly from the results. BTW, a similar thing can be done for blog parts, and this effort is called keyword-rich markup, but that’s a story for another blog.

Future Prediction for SEO

Back in May 2021, during the Google IO Conference, Google revealed a new algorithm update for 2022 called MUM. Short for Multitask Unified Model, it’s a new, redefined version for the Google itself. To put into perspective, this model will combine information from multiple sources and deliver multi-layered answers to complex search queries. Since it requires high computing power, implementing it will be a bit difficult, but let’s see when it does happen.

How to stay on top of all SEO trends

Like before, keeping to all SEO trends, may look like too much work, but it’s not that hard. It is suggested to consider working on, on-page SEO as it will help your business or brand gain ranking on search results. Use of keyword-rich markup is another way to define your content for SERP.
